--Daily B Parking Lot Customers Encouraged to Use Ron Cowan Parkway--
Oakland, Calif. - Travelers and other Oakland International Airport (OAK) users are advised of a permanent shift in traffic lanes prior to Terminal 1 beginning in the morning of Wednesday, July 26. The realigned section of roadway will be clearly marked and signage will advise motorists.
Beginning at 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26, the three inbound traffic lanes on Airport Drive will be permanently realigned beginning in the vicinity of the entrance to the Hourly and Daily A parking lots. Traffic lanes leading to the terminal buildings will shift left.
The traffic lane realignment on Airport Drive necessitated the removal of the dedicated right-turn lane leading to the Daily B parking lot. Daily B parking users are encouraged to access the lot by taking the Ron Cowan Parkway off-ramp. Motorists should turn left on Ron Cowan Parkway, turn right on the newly reconstructed two-way John Glenn Drive, then turn right into the Daily B parking lot.
This construction supports OAK's $300 million Terminal Improvement Program. Begun in 2004, the Terminal Improvement Program is designed to add even more convenience, security and service to the travel experience. In Terminal 2, the program encompasses a new seven-gate concourse and waiting areas; expanded ticketing, security and baggage claim facilities; and a modern, centralized food, beverage and retail shopping area. Additional improvements to the terminal roadway and curbsides will improve access and ease traffic congestion in front of both terminals. Program completion is expected in 2008.
OAK has over 200 flights a day on 12 domestic and international carriers to 40 nonstop destinations, including Atlanta, Boston, Fort Lauderdale, the Hawaiian Islands including Hilo, New York, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Mexico, and seasonal service to the Azores (Portugal), Vancouver, BC and Sun Valley, Idaho. OAK served 14.4 million passengers and handled over 671,000 metric tons of air cargo in 2005. Visit oaklandairport.com for more information.
